AskBently Nevada 3500 System
A buyer-focused view of ENCORE speed monitoring, low-speed signal quality and the boundary between indication and overspeed protection.
Speed indication and emergency protection serve different plant decisions. 3500/50E processes two supported proximity-probe or magnetic-pickup inputs for configured speed, zero-speed, rotor-acceleration or reverse-rotation monitoring in an ENCORE system.
Low-speed performance deserves particular attention when 3500/50E is used for zero-speed or direction monitoring. A proximity signal is generally the stronger choice for these duties because a passive magnetic pickup may not produce a reliable edge at very low speed.
For an ENCORE rack upgrade, the retained I/O and relay arrangement remains part of the buying decision. ApterPLC can review pickup type, events per revolution, required monitoring mode and rack details to help buyers request the right 3500/50E configuration.
The most useful quotation starts with the operating decision rather than an RPM value alone.
Speed band, zero speed, acceleration and reverse rotation answer different operating questions.
Low-speed duties need a signal source that remains stable throughout the required range.
Tachometer indication complements, but does not replace, an independent emergency overspeed system.
Both channels can be configured around the selected speed-related task.
Speed band, zero speed, rotor acceleration and reverse rotation are available configuration choices.
Retained 3300 I/O and relay hardware remains part of the final system fit.

The pickup and target need to provide a usable edge at the lowest speed that matters to the plant decision.
The normal speed controller and emergency trip function remain separate from the tachometer monitoring role.
Magnetic pickups can become less dependable as speed falls and are not the preferred signal source for zero-speed or reverse-rotation duties. For these applications, the pickup choice directly affects the usefulness of 3500/50E. ApterPLC can help compare the installed sensor and required operating range before quotation.
The module supports tachometer monitoring and alarms, but it is not an independent emergency overspeed-protection system. Critical trip duty should remain with the approved dedicated architecture.
A supported proximity signal is usually the stronger choice for zero-speed or reverse-rotation monitoring because passive magnetic-pickup output falls as speed decreases.
Reliable direction monitoring depends on a suitable signal at the required speed range. A magnetic pickup that looks satisfactory at normal speed may be weak during slow rotation.
The most common comparison points are events per revolution, input threshold, channel mode and pickup waveform. A mismatch in any of these settings can change the displayed result.
The pickup model, tooth or event count, operating-speed range, required monitoring mode, rack and I/O labels, quantity and destination give our team a practical basis for matching.
The monitoring role may be similar, but the surrounding I/O and relay arrangement can differ. The installed rack architecture should therefore be part of the replacement review.
A useful enquiry includes the pickup type, events per revolution, minimum and maximum speed, desired channel mode, retained I/O details and the role of the separate overspeed system.
